On Monday afternoon, a three-story building under controlled demolition collapsed. The incident occurred at the intersection of Calzada San Antonio Abad and Alfredo Chavero Street, near the headquarters of the Penitentiary System Subsecretariat, in the Tránsito neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc borough. The Citizen Security Secretariat reported through its official channels that the event was an uncontrolled collapse of a structure that was already being dismantled. According to the agency, personnel were deployed to the site as initial indications suggest that four people may be trapped under the rubble. The head of the General Directorate of the Heroic Fire Corps of Mexico City, Juan Manuel Pérez Cova, reported the rescue of two people inside the building. Due to the suspicion that there may be more victims, the search was intensified. In this regard, the fire chief added that they activated the canine unit to locate three more people, so tactical operations will continue uninterrupted until the presence of more trapped individuals is ruled out. On the other hand, the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, informed that one person has been rescued and they were working to extract three more: Emergency teams are already carrying out rescue operations to assist people trapped after the building collapse.
